CHOICES Adoption & Counselling Services
CHOICES is committed to providing a professional comphrehensive, client centered adoption service which best meets the needs of everyone in the adoption constellation with paramount consideration given to the best interests of the child.
Process
- Register with CHOICES and complete your home study with a CHOICES Social Worker (approximately 3 to 4 months).
- Apply with Terre des Hommes, our facilitator for Vietnam adoptions.
- Apply to sponsor your adopted child with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (at the same time as your home study is being completed).
- Work with CHOICES to create a dossier for Vietnam. This dossier is sent to Terre des Hommes who will translate it and then send it to Vietnam.
- Wait for a proposal of a child.
- Adoptive parents usually travel to Vietnam to pick up the child approximately six months after the proposal has been accepted.
- Terre des Hommes staff will accompany and assist adoptive parents throughout their stay in Vietnam (approximately three weeks).
- Travel documents for the child are obtained and then sent to the Canadian Embassy in Singapore in order to finalize immigration procedures. Once the Canadian visa is obtained, parents return to Canada with their child.
- Post placement reports must be submitted by adoptive parents each year until the child reaches the age of 18 (twice per year for the first three years).
