International Adoption » Hungary
Hungary local time:
The Hungary program is open to British Columbia families only. The Hungary program is offered in partnership with our facilitator, Children’s House International.
Adoptive parents must be at least 16 years older than their adoptive child, but no more than 45 years older. The age difference is calculated based on the age of the younger adoptive parent, and the older child if siblings are being adopted.
Children over the age of 24 months are available. Girls are seldom referred and those referred will likely have special needs or health issues to some degree due to the active domestic adoption program in Hungary. Children have a full medical screening and photos and a video are provided. The majority of these children are of Gypsy or Roma descent. Many children have been abandoned, which means there may be little background or health history available. Some children, relinquished by their birth parents will have background and health history available.
It is difficult to provide a specific time frame for the adoption process as the political situation and legislation of any country is subject to change.
Once an application is received and the home study is approved, CHOICES will assist in completing your paperwork and preparing the dossier for Hungary. In collaboration with our facilitator, we will guide and assist you through all phases of the adoption process while ensuring all requirements met both in Canada and in Hungary. More information on the adoption process can be found here.
