The children live in orphanages and range in age from infants to 10 years old with both boys and girls being available. Siblings and twins are common and are also available for adoption. Sufficient medical care is scarce in Ethiopia; however, children that have survived without their parents are thought to be very strong as they have been able to manage on their own. Ethiopia is a country shattered by war, drought and HIV/AIDS.

The homestudy through CHOICES takes three months. Once your homestudy is completed, your dossier preparation can take about one month. Adopting parents should be ready to travel three to six months after the proposal is accepted. The stay in Ethiopia is a week to 10 days.
