Domestic Adoption » Domestic Infant and Direct Placement Adoption

Visit the Domestic Adoption site.

Image of BabyThere are about 60 newborn infant adoptions each year in B.C and CHOICES has historically placed around 6-12 newborn infants a year. For prospective adoptive parents this means there is no certainty that they will be able to adopt a child locally or what the wait time might be.

We work with expectant parents and facilitate adoptions throughout British Columbia. Birth parents choose the adoptive parents for their child. When registered for a domestic adoption, your home-study and profile will be shown to the expectant parents we are working with, when it meets the criteria requested by the expectant parent(s). In the event that you are chosen to adopt, we will support and guide you through the placement.

CHOICES will register homestudies completed from other agencies onto our domestic registry.

We encourage you to look at all your options, including adopting a waiting child that is in care of the Ministry for Child and Family Development, in care in Alberta, in care across Canada, in care in the United States and intercountry adoption. We also encourage you to visit Canada Adopts.

Direct Placement Adoptions

These adoptions occur when the birth family and the prospective adoptive family know each other. CHOICES proceeds with these adoptions in the same manner and process as a domestic adoption. Please call the office to obtain the form needed to notify the agency that you intend to have a child placed with you for adoption.
